Intermittent Community Work Program
The Intermittent Community Work Program (ICWP) has been operating in the London area since September of 2005. Currently the program has had 200 offenders in the London area complete the program successfully.
Stemming from our community based restorative justice framework, SLCS was approached to create a partnership with ICWP through networking with the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Toronto's Operation Springboard and other local community agencies.
Goals of the Program
- Designed to provide meaningful work opportunities to eligible offenders who are serving intermittent sentences in many areas across the province.
- Providing offenders with community connections and providing communities with labour and skills that benefit their agency/group.
Terms for Eligibility
- Direct applications to the local institution are accepted. Screening and interviewing determine eligibility.
- Impaired driving causing bodily harm, domestic or sex offence, history of sex offence or an outstanding arrest warrant disqualify eligibility.
- Successful candidates are paired with a local community group/agency requiring services with an average minimum of 11 hours/week. (Typically Saturday and Sunday)
- House arrest and random monitoring through a voice monitoring system ensures safety and regulation when not attending community work placements.
The duration served varies in each case, depending on the courts determination of appropriate sentence.
