Attendance Centre

Launched in April 2006, the Attendance Centre provides structured, supervised programs where youth (12-18) in conflict with the law learn to accept responsibility for their actions.

At one time, staff can support up to 25 youth with developing anger management skills, preparing youth for employment and assisting them with developing other essential life skills.

Referrals

Referrals to community agencies, additional support and aftercare are essential to the success of the program.

Youth are referred to and participate in many of St. Leonard's Community Services London and Region programs based on an on going assessment of risk and needs. The majority of these programs are offered concurrently which allows for extensive flexibility. All programs utilize a “strength-based”, “youth engagement” approach.

For more information regarding referrals, please call (519) 850-3777.

Goals of the Attendance Centre:

  • To encourage change in anti-social values allowing youth to self-monitor behaviour and promote responsible interaction/participation in the community
  • Young people will view themselves as valuable participants in the Attendance Centre and positive members in their community through atmosphere modeling, credibility, acceptance, belonging and shared responsibility

Three Phases Of The Attendance Centre

  • Intensive Phase: Goals are promoted by challenging values, changing anti-social attitudes while promoting pro-social thinking (Youth attend this phase four to five times per week)
  • Intermediate Phase: Development of cognitive skills, positive values and responsible behaviours (Youth attend this phase two to three times per week)
  • Discharge Phase: Goals are reviewed and one-month follow up is assessed, ensuring increased involvement within the community
