(Youth) Community Service Order (CSO)
Youth are court ordered to participate in a community service program and act under the direction of the Probation Officer as well as St. Leonard's Community Service Order staff.
Contact between all parties of the program and the youth's progress is documented in client files. Organized by phone and/or letter, the first appointment for youth involved inn the CSO program is set to discuss:
- Offence information
- CSO responsibilities
- Signing the acknowledgement form
- Record of Hours in the program (time card)
- Arrangement of community placement
Community Placements
- Community Placement Agencies offer on-going recruitment for new placements, regular telephone and personal visits to client placements, and the monthly update of hours.
- Site Supervisions support and assist with special community events that require CSO clients. Some events include Gus Macker, CIBC Run for the Cure and the London International Children's Festival
- Home Projects: clients who face disability challenges, health, transportation or child care concerns are offered a home alternative. Projects such as knitted blankets are donated to agencies in need (ex. The Woman's Community House)
Goals and expectations required from youth in the CSO programs are followed by regular monthly appointments. These meetings are set to:
- Update completed hours
- Discuss any concerns/issues regarding placement
- Discuss personal issues of the client
NOT completing community service results in a failure to comply charge.
In contrast, a completion summary and client file is sent back to the probation office on behalf of successful individuals.
